History of the City and general information<\/strong><\/p>\n

Batumi (Georgian-Laz: \u10d1\u10d0\u10d7\u10e3\u10db\u10d8 \/ Batumi) is a port city on the Black Sea coast of Georgia, the administrative center of the Adjara Autonomous Republic. The population is 121,806 (2002). In the summer months of Batumi, which is a tourism center, this population reaches 400,000.<\/p>\n

Batumi is an important port and trade center where the Transcaucasian Railway and the Baku oil pipeline come to an end. It remained within the borders of the Democratic Republic of Georgia, established in 1918.
